What inspired you to start your business?
Sore Legged Potter was born out of my love for creating unique handmade pieces that invoke a special emotion through form, function and design. I love getting my hands muddy and creating something that others enjoy.
How would you describe your business?
I believe every pottery piece should invoke a special emotion. All ceramic pieces are one of a kind, hand made in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I use several different techniques dating back 17,000 years. These technique consist of pinch pots, handbuilding, slab rolling, wheel- thrown pottery pieces that are decorated with transfer papers, watercolour underglazes and hand dipped glazes to create these unique designs.
What do you love most about owning and running your business?
I love being creative and finding new ways to express nature in the pottery form. I read once, that creative ideas are generated similarly to fishing in a pond. You have to stock the pond, in order to catch something. Much like art, stocking the pond with things that inspire you, like culture, illustration, history etc. will bring you lots of references to draw upon as an artist helping you stay creative.
What’s your bestselling product? Why do you think it’s so popular?
The ‘Ocean at night’ mugs are my bestselling product because they feel good in your hand with their curved-belly shape and the glaze is like a midnight wave washing upon the shore- so serene and beautiful!
