MADE IN CANADA ICE CREAM BRANDS

This shopping guide includes Canadian ice cream companies that my husband and I enjoy along with recommendations from our Instagram & threads community of local shopping experts who shared with us their favourite Canadian ice cream and flavours that they love. Enjoy!

Chapman’s Ice Cream

First up we have Chapman’s Ice Cream based in Markdale, Ontario. Chapman’s is located in my home town so I’ve grown up enjoying Chapman’s and continue to choose this awesome made in Canada ice cream. Along with a wide selection of ice cream flavours like their new Piña Colada flavour which is perfect for summer, they also have other treats like drumsticks, popsicles and more. Chapman’s is a true Canadian ice cream brand that you can be proud to support.

This family-owned and operated business has been in operation since 1973. Despite setbacks like a fire that burned one of their production facilities to the ground in 2009, they rebuilt and continue to set the standards for incredible ice cream in Canada. They also made the decision to make ice cream for people with dietary needs so they offer Peanut & Nut-Free, Lactose-Free, No Sugar Added, and Gluten-Free ice cream. Look for them in your grocery stores!

Kawartha Dairy

Kawartha Dairy is another popular Canadian ice cream brand that’s been family-owned and operated since 1937. They have so many unique flavours to choose from including your traditional french vanilla, cookies & cream, and chocolate but they also have really unique flavours like campfire s’mores and moon mist. Moon Mist is a mix of banana, bubblegum, and grape ice cream. Yum!

  • Bobcaygeon, Ontario
  • You can shop for Kawartha Dairy ice cream at one of their 14 retail stores across Ontario or from various Canadian retailers

COWS Ice Cream

COWS ice cream started in 1983 with a family recipe and has now become a well-know Prince Edward Island business and sought-after Canadian ice cream brand. Look for one of their 12 retail stores across Canada to enjoy their delicious ice cream. They have unique flavours like Gooey Mooey and Moonicorn. Prefer a more traditional flavour? Don’t worry, they have that too.

Shaw’s Ice Cream

Another popular response when we asked Canadians on Threads for their favourite Canadian ice cream brand was Shaw’s Ice Cream, a small town Ontario business. Carl Shaw launched Shaw’s Ice Cream in 1948 in St. Thomas, ON and in 2001, three sisters purchased the business to continue the legacy and eventually moved their production facility to their home town of Tillsonburg, ON. Check for Shaw’s Ice Cream in your grocery stores!

Pom Pom Treats

Pom Pom Treats is a great ice cream shop with locations in Thornbury and Meaford, ON. They make traditional dairy ice cream but also have plant-based ice cream. If you’re travelling through Meaford or Thornbury, stop in for a cone of delicious ice cream.
