What inspired you to start your business?
The inspiration that lead me to starting this business is that I initially wanted to make extra income to help pay off my student loans so I started making jewelry. I really started enjoying learning about metals, various stones, and learning new techniques to make jewelry. It is also very rewarding seeing my items worn and enjoyed by my customers. The joy that came from making, learning, and selling has transpired to my permanent small business.
How would you describe your business?
My jewelry designs are inspired by shapes, textures, and themes (nature, marine life, life experiences, etc.). I don’t limit my designs to any particular stones however I do tend to lean towards green turquoise, webbed stones, and medium to large sized stones. I am currently loving the use of White Buffalo in my recent and current work.
What’s your bestselling product?
It’s hard to provide an answer for what my best-selling product is due to a lot of my work being one-of-a-kind pieces, for most of my releases. I would say the whale necklace that sold was the most sought after as well as rings being popular products.
Why do you think it’s so popular?
I think the reason the whale necklace was so popular is because it was designed with a lot of tiny details, it has depth in its shape through use of layered metals, textures and oxidized silver. Because of this, the whale catches the eye so easily and its size is appropriate for a necklace where it doesn’t deter customers from considering it.
What’s your favourite product that you make?
My personal favourite product from my shop that is currently available is definitely the turtle earrings, without a doubt. I handcrafted the silver turtle charms and they have the most beautiful Yungai Turquoise stones hanging from them. They are just detailed enough to still maintain the minimalistic look I wanted them to have. The stones pair perfectly because of their colour, very thalassic.
What’s your favourite local business?
I moved to New Brunswick just over a year ago so I’ve been trying to visit local businesses to support them as well as supporting them through online purchases if they’re based outside of Saint John. The Shop Local Canada website has been super helpful in finding local businesses such as Rough Hands Silver, Baked Candle Co., and RC Works Co.
