What inspired you to start your business?
In my business I primarily make and sell dinnerware made from various stoneware clays. I employ a variety of techniques to create aesthetic, durable, and functional ceramic pieces for everyday use. Pieces are hand formed on a potters wheel, trimmed, fired, glazed and re-fired in the ceramic making process.
I have learned the art and science of pottery from a young age when my father taught me as well as being self-taught. I think what makes my ceramics unique is how I simplify the product to allow the quality of materials and function of the pieces to be highlighted. I also think my ability to maintain precision and consistency from one item to the next is a trait that distinguishes my dinnerware.
What’s your bestselling piece and why do you think it’s so popular?
Mugs. Mugs have been a ubiquitous human tool for thousands of years. They serve a very basic but universal function. I think handmade mugs are so popular because people enjoy the personal aspect of an item they use everyday. People appreciate the uniqueness and handcrafted qualities that are lost on mass produced items.
