What inspired you to start your business?
Jill and I were visiting one evening and reminiscing about the quilts mom made for us when we were kids and how warm and cozy they were and how you just can’t find anything like them in a store. After chatting for awhile we decided to make one for each of our children for Christmas that year (2017). We enjoyed the process so much and they loved their new quilts so much that we decided to make some more and open an Etsy shop to see if others were interested. Much to our surprise, our shop took off and we’ve been busy making quilts ever since! We love keeping the tradition of truly handmade alive and carrying on the craft we learned from our Mom and Grandma.
How would you describe your business?
We are two sisters that create handmade flannel patchwork quilts. Each quilt is made entirely by one of us from first cut to final stitch. All of our quilts are made from flannel as it is so soft and cozy. We source our flannel, prewash it, cut it into squares and create original designs. Then we sew each square together to create the front of the quilt and sandwich 2 layers of high loft batting between the front and back (also flannel). We then stretch all 4 layers onto wooden frames and tie the layers together by hand. After it’s tied, we remove it from the frames, trim the edges and sew a flannel binding around the outside to finish it off.
What’s your bestselling product & why are they so popular?
Queen size flannel quilts.
Not too big, not too small, but just right! Our queen size flannel quilts are the perfect size for a queen size comforter, a full size bedspread or an extra large cozy quilt for the couch. They’re machine washable and just keep getting softer and softer over time.
What’s your favourite product from your own shop?
I can’t really choose a favourite because it changes all the time! Jill and I both laugh every time we create a new quilt, it’s our new favourite 🙂
What’s your favourite local business?
I’ve just recently discovered Mint Cleaning Products and am in love with them!
