What inspired you to start your business?

Growing up, I always loved to draw and also sew – you could find me making my own clothing from a very young age. Once I learned how to screen print my designs onto my clothing, it seemed like the perfect place to start! Friends and family liked what I was making, and I decided to start selling pieces on Etsy.

How do you describe your brand?

I would describe Kindred Coast as a sustainable, local clothing company, that is focused on getting everything made here in Canada. We hand screen print our own original artwork onto our clothes, and we use eco friendly water based inks to do so. We strive to be as low waste as possible, reusing materials and choosing eco friendly options wherever possible. Our favourite materials at the moment include : Organic cotton, recycled water bottles, and tencel.

What’s your bestselling product & why do you think they’re so popular?

I would say our Treeline unisex tshirt is our most popular design.

So many people have a connection to the design, which depicts many different types of trees with a heartbeat rhythm along the bottom. This print has been a hit with nurses, doctors, and hikers/explorers alike. We also print this design on womens tees, tank tops and hoodies, as everyone loves it!

What’s your favourite product from your own shop?

My favourite product in our shop is the new 100% Organic Cotton hoodies, with our Floating Island design on it. It is just such a striking print of our local mountain here in Parksville (Mt Arrowsmith) and I love having a cozy hoodie that is made from organic cotton in the shop.

What’s your favourite local British Columbia business?

We always shop from a health food grocery store here on the island called Naked Naturals. They are the best!
