What inspired you to open your shop?

I love making things with my hands and sharing them with others. When I saw the opportunity to do that in a way that was accessible and flexible, it just seemed like a natural next step!

How would you describe your business?

I have been doing pottery for a little over four years now, and in that time I have lived in different cities and been in various stages of my education and career. I began with lessons at a tiny community studio in my hometown, and from there I continued to practice and learn new techniques through my own research, trial and error. For those who may not know, the pottery process requires a lot of patience! Pottery has been a consistent source of creativity and self-care, and I believe my work has evolved and changed to reflect the seasons I find myself in. I work partially at home, where I begin the process of throwing clay on my pottery wheel. Often this happens with a cup of coffee and a good podcast. I then transport the pieces to a local community studio where they are bisque fired, glazed, and fired for a final time. I love the balance of privacy and the opportunity to connect with others who love the craft as much as I do.

What’s your best selling product and why is it so popular?

Everybody seems to love a good mug! They are so practical and are a way to make ordinary moments a little more special.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in business?

Just do it! You will learn the most by doing, making mistakes, asking questions and finding out what works for you. Also, find someone who has done it before who can offer some guidance along the way!

Did you always know you’d follow this path or how has your journey as a maker/business owner progressed?

I would never have believed myself to be the entrepreneurial type, and I continue to be surprised by the opportunities that come along for me to connect and share with others.
