What inspired you to start your business?

I started making candles for fun in 2019 and really enjoyed it. I was looking for an all-natural, affordable candle because synthetic fragrances cause me to get headaches. I started making more during the first part of 2020 and sharing them with family and friends who encouraged me to start selling them. I opened an Etsy shop in June 2020 and then transitioned to selling at markets and on my own website in 2022.

How would you describe your business?

Peace Candle Co. is committed to making 100% natural candles with no additives or synthetic fragrances. All the candles are made by Kim and I use natural soy wax and pure, organic essential oils to scent the candles. They are non-toxic, vegan, and eco-friendly. I am committed to making the best product possible and to keeping them affordable. I avoid all unnecessary mark-ups unlike many other companies because I want everyone to be able to afford to have a good quality candle at an affordable price. All of my candles are handmade in small batches to ensure consistency.

Ocean Air candle

Why do you think it’s so popular?

The Ocean Air candle is a blend of lavender, peppermint, and rosemary essential oils which typically are used in aromatherapy to naturally reduce the effects of headaches but it is also such a nice smelling blend. It’s relaxing and calming and reminds me of a perfect day by the ocean.

What’s your favourite candle?

My personal current favourite is the Rosemary & Mint candle. Rosemary & mint is one of my favourite scent combos and it’s both calming and refreshing. I love to have one burning beside me as I work.

What’s your favourite Calgary shop?

I love Serendipity Pops! Her cookies are the absolute best I have ever had!
