How would you describe your business?
Mother Nature is also a big part of the team; really our goal is to support her through the process of growing a tree for us to sell to you. So it would be remis not to acknowledge the sun, moon, earth and water, and everything in-between as well, as part of what makes Silver Creek Nursery itself! We strive to use only sustainable and holistic methods in our fields & orchard; we start with the health of each and every tree we grow and we support that health so that mainstream herbicides and chemicals are not required!
What was the inspiration to open your business?
Steph worked seasonally here during high school and beyond for her cousin Ken (founder of the nursery). While never anticipating a career in farming or business, here we are! A chef school drop-out with a passion for good, clean food, she never quite found her place and kept reverting to return to the nursery between jobs. When Ken posed the ultimatum in 2018 to sell the business to the competition or have Steph take over, she mulled it over for a while and concluded that while she didn’t know what she wanted to do with her life, she knew she wasn’t done with Silver Creek Nursery.

Apples & Canadian cold hardy peach varieties.
Why do you think it’s so popular?
Canadians are surprised sometimes to hear that peaches and plums can be grown here. There is an increasing interest in growing more of our own food – in our own backyards, and I think people are interested in learning they too, can grow delicious fruit.
What’s your favourite product from your own shop?
Our Canadian Edible Forest Bundle because it gives people a good place to start growing their own food without needing a huge space and know-how. We bundled up everything you need. Growing your own food creates a cycle of care, growth, tending to and nourishing your family – bringing you happiness and a sense of self-sufficiency.
