What inspired you to start your business?

After having my daughter in 2020, I found it very difficult to stick to my day job of being a watercolour artist. As most moms know, you’re up and down all day long without much time to finish a single project in one sitting! Sewing had been a hobby of mine since I was a child, so I started to find joy in creating unique clothing for her in my “down time” and once she was asleep for the night. I began sharing things I had made for her and eventually decided I wanted to create for other children as well! That’s when I opened up my business and was able to utilize all of that built up creativity into a new medium.

How do you describe your business?

At Year After Year, I create handmade, sustainable clothing for babies and kids. I use organic and natural materials like super soft bamboo and cotton fabrics that are printed using my own artwork as well as designs from indie artists. I create upcycled, reworked collections alongside my core offerings, like jackets made from beautiful vintage quilts. Everything is cut and sewn in my home studio.

What’s your bestselling product & why do you think it’s so popular?

My upcycled vintage quilt jackets are always bestsellers, along with my signature oversized sweaters, which have a classic retro fit and last for years!

My quilt jackets are 100% one of a kind, which make them super special. Each one is pieced together carefully and thoughtfully using materials that have a history. You won’t find anyone else wearing one identical and I think that’s what makes them so special. My bamboo/cotton clothing is a customer favourite because I use the softest and most breathable fibers and create styles of clothing that allow for a lot of growth — so mamas don’t have to continually purchase clothing month after month!

What’s your personal favourite product?

I LOVE a good oversized sweater in literally any print because they are SO cozy! This is the style that I have continually made for my daughter since she was an infant. The fit is adorable and easy for kids to move around in without feeling restricted.

What’s your favourite local Ontario business?

I have to give credit to my friend Kelly who owns Wanderbird Co here in the beach. She provides me with tons of her leftover scrap blankets and quilts to make mini-versions of her adult jackets.
